Staff Training
Training on Basic ABA Principles
The foundation of effective behavior support relies on staff understanding the basic principles of ABA. Training typically covers reinforcement, punishment, motivation, behavioral functions, and antecedents/consequences.
Data Collection and Analysis
Behavior analysts emphasize the importance of data collection to monitor progress and inform decisions. Training includes how to collect accurate and reliable data, using different data collection methods, interpreting data to determine whether interventions are effective or need adjustment, and visual analysis of progress.
Crisis Management and Safety Procedures
In some settings (e.g., residential programs, schools, home care), behaviors may escalate to a level that requires crisis intervention. Staff training includes recognizing early signs of escalation and knowing when and how to intervene safely, de-escalation strategies, safety protocols, and positive behavior supports.
Collaboration and Team Training
Behavior analysts may also provide team training to ensure that all stakeholders (e.g., parents, teachers, support staff, and administrators) are aligned in their approach.
